Day at the beach

After a really long weekend at work, I was determined to make the most of my 1st day off on Tuesday. We needed to go School Jumper shopping first, once that ordeal was over we headed down to Pwllheli (on the Llyn Peninsula) to spend the day on the beach.

It's a little over an hour's drive with stunning views along the way, as I started to unload the car I realised that Isabella had forgotten her backpack with her and Martha's picnic. Luckily I had enough food packed in my bag that no one went hungry.

It's been a couple of years since we were there last, from what I can remember it was always a sandy beach. But when we got there on Tuesday there were so much more stones than I remembered and walking to the water was quite a challenge. Osh and Isabella were quite happy to skip down the water over the stones, Martha Grace on the other hand was having none of it. In the end we all wore our shoes to walk down to the and then I guarded them making sure the water didn't get too close to them as they kids played in the water.

Osh and Isabella couldn't wait to jump in, the temperature of the water didn't bother them. Martha Grace was slightly recultant at first; but after watching her brother and sister splashing around for a while she decided that she wanted in on the action too. She wouldn't go in on her own though, she called for Osh to come get her and insisted on holding his hand to walk in.

I could have cried watching them play so nicely together; it was one of those "perfect moments"...gorgeous sunny day, lovely beach and happy children. I didn't mind that there was no one there to take a photo of me with the kids, I was quite happy to be the spectator and photographer on their day out.

If we don't get to the beach again this summer that's OK. I had the best day on Tuesday, made memories that will help me through the hard times that we know lie ahead. I have photo's of my children enjoying themselves and I know that I gave them that day.

I found a quote online that says "Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory" - but I knew all afternoon on Tuesday that we were making memories.

Being a Heart Family is tough, but it does make us appreciate the time we spend together so much more, we don't take anything for granted and we love fiercely!
